UKHillwalking.com Launched

UKHillwalking.com has launched today. Building on the popularity of sister site UKClimbing.com, we will cater to everyone who gets their kicks on foot in the hills.

With your help we aim to create a warm and friendly place to discuss all things hillwalking, from Corbett collecting to the walking boot-versus-approach shoe debate - in fact anything to do with the wild high places of Britain and beyond.The specific UKHillwalking.com Forums, like Hilltalk, have been created to ask questions about specific hills and mountains, share experiences, find a partner, sell stuff, get advice on the latest hard shell jackets or just chat.One of the cornerstones of UKHillwalking.com is the Logbook system, which already lists over 3,000 hills and mountains in the UK and further afield. This is where you can record and map your walks (or runs or bike rides) with the aid of a simple mapping interface. It features Map My Route, Log My Summits and an Activity Diary. That's right, you can keep a record of not only what you summited, when and with whom, but also how many miles you walked, over how many hours (or days), and how high you ascended. Personal adventures can either be shared or kept private. We hope the Logbooks will be useful to anyone working through a hill list, whether you're on your first attempt at all the Hewitts or a third Munro round, collecting Wainwrights or Welsh 3,000'ers.

There are two of us working on UKH editorial to bring you regular hillwalking news and feature articles that cover ideas on where to hillwalk at the weekend, what to wear and how to keep yourself safe.
